Firefighters rescue man from burning home in Kent

KENT, Wash. - A man is recovering Tuesday after being rescued from inside a burning home in Kent.

Fire crews reponded to the home, in the 1400 block of Maple Lane, just after 2 a.m. after receiving 911 calls about the blaze, said Ryan Montero of the Kent Fire Department.

The house was supposedly abandoned, but firefighters searched it anyway as a precaution - and found a man inside. They pulled him to safety as flames crackled around them and smoke permeated the home.

The man suffered some smoke inhalation and was taken to a hospital.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze within about 40 minutes, Montero said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
