Fire at Lynnwood auto shop snarls early Mukilteo Speedway traffic
LYNNWOOD, Wash. - A fire at a Lynnwood auto repair shop snarled traffic on Mukilteo Speedway, also known as Highway 525, during the early Thursday morning commute.
Fire crews responded to the scene, Mike’s Performance auto repair shop near Mukilteo Speedway and Beverly Park Road, at about 5:15 a.m. after receiving reports of smoke and flames coming from the building there, said Leslie Hynes of Snohomish County Fire District 1.
The firefighters initially blocked all northbound lanes of the highway as they tackled the blaze, creating a long traffic within minutes. One lane was later reopened, and all lanes were back open by about 8 a.m.
According to early reports, no one was inside the building at the time and there were no injuries reported.
Crews quickly brought the fire under control, but firefighting equipment remains at the scene and could be there for some time. Motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes through the area, if possible.
Hynes says it appears the blaze started in an office area of the shop. The exact cause of the blaze is under investigation.
