Family of 5 barely escapes early morning house fire in Pierce Co.

FREDERICKSON, Wash. - A family of five barely escaped with their lives after their home caught fire early Tuesday morning in Frederickson, about 10 miles southwest of Puyallup.

All five sustained injuries in the blaze, but the father was the most seriously injured after he ran through the burning house to make sure he got everyone out.

Fire crews resonded to the scene just before 5 a.m. Tuesday after receiving a report of smoke and flames pouring from the home, which is directly across the street from Frederickson Elementary School.

Neighbors say the family - a mother, father and three young children - had just moved into the rental house about five days ago.

Somehow they were alerted to the blaze, which broke out as they slept.

The fled from the home, barely escaping with their lives.

The mother and children were all taken to Tacoma General Hospital. The father, who was more seriously injured, was taken to St. Joseph Hospital's trauma unit for treatment.

The house is a total loss.
