Family cat killed during burglary

SEATTLE -- A Beacon Hill family lost more than just the typical electronics when they found their cat dead following a burglary last week.

According to the Seattle Police Department's report for the incident, somebody broke out the backdoor window (after originally trying to kick the door down) at the house in the 3200 block of 15th Avenue South sometime between noon and 2 p.m. June 7.

After discovering the burglary, the family found their cat lying dead in the middle of the backyard, according to the report. Someone had apparently hit it hard enough to kill it.

In an email to neighbors, the cat's owners said she figures the cat either got in the way of the burglar or just wanted to be petted.

Several items were taken in the burglary, and While there are no suspects, officers were able to lift fingerprints from a jewelry box, as well as a handful of counters and drawers. Also, shoe prints left on the backdoor from the attempt to kick it down appear to be from two different shoes, according to the report.
