Police say a man was walking near 57th Avenue South and South Bangor Street just after 9 p.m. when three strangers came up from behind, threw him to the ground and began kicking and punching him.
Police say the aim of the attack was to rob the man, but the trio was spooked by passersby and took off running before they actually stole anything.
One of the attackers tried to run across the street and was hit by a car. He was able to limp to the other side of the street, but he soon collapsed in pain.
One of his friends helped pick him up and all three attackers were gone before police arrived at the scene. Officers searched the area but didn't find anything.
The victim suffered a black eye and a contusion on his forehead. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment, but is expected to recover.
Police have yet to release a detailed description of the attackers.
