Ex-Snohomish Co. official pleads guilty to evidence tampering

ARLINGTON, Wash. (AP) - A onetime aide to former Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon, Kevin Hulten, pleaded guilty Monday to tampering with evidence during a criminal investigation.

Hulten was sentenced in Cascade District Court in Arlington to five days on a Skagit County work crew.

The Daily Herald reports Hulten also was fined $1,500 and ordered to pay nearly $2,000 in court costs.

As part of a plea agreement, Hulten admitted he downloaded a data-wiping program onto a county-owned laptop in March 2013 when detectives were trying to determine whether he had broken any laws in a campaign against Reardon's political rivals.

The Daily Herald reported he made record requests using various aliases and was responsible for spoof emails and Web hit pages.
