Everett police arrest teen who allegedly stabbed relative

EVERETT, Wash. -- Everett police have arrested a 19-year-old man who they say stabbed a relative inside an apartment Monday afternoon.

Officers were called to the Copperstone Apartments on 85th Pl. SW around 1 p.m. and found a 25-year-old man had been stabbed with a knife. He was taken to a local hospital and was expected to survive.

Meanwhile, a 19-year-old relative of the victim who is suspected in the attack had run from the scene on foot. Officers surrounded the area and had police dogs attempt to track the suspect down but were initially unsuccessful. However, police said they later arrested their suspect, Steven A. Kirkaldie, and booked him into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of assault.

Nearby Horizon Elementary School was placed in modified lockdown for about an hour during the police search.
