Elderly Olympia woman injured in bizarre attack

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- An elderly woman was hospitalized Friday after a bizarre attack at her Olympia apartment complex.

Linda Gilson is friends with the victim and said the pieces of the puzzle aren't quite coming together. Her friend, a woman in her 70s, was sitting in the common area of the Casa Madrona housing complex working on a puzzle when witnesses say another resident attacked her with a chair.

"She was naked and saying something about she has to save the children," Gilson said.

Gilson said she's spooked by the bizarre attack.

"What if I had been out there?" she said. "It could have happened to me. It didn't matter who was sitting there."

The suspected attacker was taken to the hospital and police say she will undergo a mental evaluation. The elderly victim is recovering at a local hospital.

Representatives from the King County Housing Authority, which runs the community, refused to comment on the story.
