Elderly man found dead after car crash in Puyallup

PUYALLUP, Wash. -- An elderly man was found dead after his car crashed in Puyallup late Tuesday morning.

The collision happened just after 11 a.m. in the 11200 block of Canyon Rd. East, officials said.

The original report indicated two cars collided, but witnesses told police the driver veered off the road and hit a light pole, causing the car to land on its side.

The driver appears to have had a medical event while driving, causing him to lose control of the vehicle, said officials with Central Pierce Fire & Rescue.

The Pierce County Medical Examiner was dispatched to the scene and will give a determination on the exact cause of death, officials said.

Canyon Road was closed near the crash scene for a while for the investigation.
