Duck hunter shot in leg while hundreds of yards from shore

TULALIP, Wash. -- Two weeks after a famous duck hunter figuratively shot himself in the foot, a local duck hunter was literally shot in the leg while in a boat hundreds of yards from shore on New Year's Day.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the 47-year-old victim and his brother were hunting ducks in a boat off Warm Beach around 5 p.m. when they heard a loud explosion.

A bullet tore through the boat's hull and a duck decoy before striking the victim in the leg.

Based on the distance and direction of the shot, investigators believe the bullet came from a high-powered rifle located on the shore, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The victim was taken to the hospital, and the Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate. At the moment, investigators do not believe there is any additional danger to the public.
