The 19-year-old had just crashed his car around 5 a.m. in the 4000 block of 96th Street S. in Lakewood, according to Chris Lawler with Lakewood police. A passenger in the teen's car told investigators the 19-year-old got out of his car and went into the roadway trying to flag down another car for help, but was struck by westbound minivan.
The driver of that car only stopped briefly, and teen's passenger said he yelled to the driver that he had just struck the 19-year-old, police said. But the driver then drove off without identifying himself or providing any medical help.
The 19-year-old was later pronounced dead.
Police say the driver was driving a tan or white Ford Windstar-type minivan with at least three other passengers in the car. The suspect's car should have front end damage toward the right front fender and wheel area and might also have damage to the undercarriage, Lawler said.
