Driver dies after crashing compact car into DOT road truck
TACOMA, Wash. - A driver is dead after crashing his compact car into a Department of Transportation road truck late Friday night.
The 30-year-old man was merging onto northbound Interstate 5 from 72nd Street in a 2001 Ford Escort around 11 p.m., Troopers with the Washington State Patrol say.
He hit a DOT road truck parked on the right shoulder of the road and was rushed to Tacoma General Hospital with serious injuries.
He later died from those injuries, WSP says.
The road was partially closed for several hours but has since reopened.
Troopers say it's not clear what caused the crash and don't know if alcohol or drugs were involved.
