Prosecutor Mark Lindquist says 28-year-old Justin Michael Linn had a violent history and posed a serious danger. He was accused of several home invasion burglaries and for shooting a woman during a robbery in July.
About two weeks after the shooting, deputies tracked him down to the motel in Buckley, near the intersection of Highway 410 and Main Street, but when they tried to arrest him there they say he ran.
He was shot by a deputy who believed Linn was pulling a handgun from his waistband. Linn was not armed, although a handgun was found in his motel room.
Ed Troyer of the Pierce County Sheriff's Office said detectives believed Linn had been planning to "take a family out."
Troyer said Linn, who has 12 previous convictions on his record, has managed to escape from deputies during two previous attempts to arrest him.
