Deputies: Military member shot and killed during fight over woman

SPANAWAY, Wash. -- Deputies say a fight over a woman ended violently Wednesday night when one man shot another dead at a Spanaway home.

Pierce County sheriff's deputies were called to a home in the 200 block of 162nd Street South just before 7 p.m. When they arrived, they found a 29-year old man dead of gunshot wounds.

The investigation is ongoing, but police say it appears the shooting began as a fight over a woman. The shooting victim showed up at the house armed with a hammer, and the 32-year-old homeowner grabbed a gun and opened fire at the man, deputies say.

Both men are currently members of the military and deputies say they knew each other.

The shooter was questioned Wednesday night, and the case will be referred to the prosecutor's office for possible charges.
