Dad accidentally runs over 2-year-old son with pickup
CHIMACUM, Wash. - A 2-year-old boy was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after his father accidentally ran over him Sunday with a pickup truck.
Sgt. Mark Apeland of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said the little boy suffered broken bones and other medical problems but his condition is improving on Monday.
The incident unfolded at about 2:50 p.m. Sunday when deputies and medics responded to an emergency call that a toddler had been run over in the driveway of a home in Chimacum.
Arriving at the scene, deputies learned that the little boy and his father, both from Port Townsend, were visiting the child's grandmother at her home when the boy was injured, Apeland said.
The father was moving the full-size GMC pickup truck in the driveway when the toddler was run over by the front tire of the vehicle. Apeland said it was an accident and no criminal charges will be filed.
The boy was airlifted to Harborview.
By Monday, he was moved from the hospital's emergency treatment area to the pediatrics wing. He was stable and talking.
Apeland said the boy's upper leg and collarbone were fractured. Doctors also treated a buildup of fluid around his lungs.
