City of Pacific appoints new mayor to replace ousted Cy Sun

PACIFIC, Wash. - After years of scandal and the recall of former mayor Cy Sun, the city of Pacific now has a new leader.

Pacific City Council President Leanne Guier was appointed the next mayor and was sworn in Thursday night.

The small city on the border of King and Pierce counties was brought to the brink of disincorporation under ousted mayor Sun.

During his 18 months at City Hall, Sun also was arrested for trying to gain access to the sealed-off City Clerk's Office. He's also fired department heads and police officers.

A recall election was held June 25, and the results were certified Thursday. About 65 percent of residents voted to recall Sun from office before the end of his term.

Mayor Guier says she's anxious to work with the rest of the council to get the city of Pacific back on track.

"It's time to get busy, roll up the sleeves and dig in and get to work - start building the city, putting it back together," she said.

Guier will finish out the rest of Sun's term, which ends in 2015.
