Charges: Teacher had sex with student, told him to lie to police

BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, Wash. -- A Bainbridge Island High School teacher accused of having sex with one of her students also allegedly pressured the boy to lie to police, according to court papers.

Jessica Fuchs is being held.on $100,000 bail and is set to appear in court on Monday.

The students at Bainbridge knew something was coming ever since first-year teacher Fuchs just disappeared from class last February with no explanation.

"All of a sudden one day she was gone and we were like 'what happened?'" said senior Parker Taylor.

Now they know. The 26-year-old is accused of having sex with a 16-year-old male student.

"I'm appalled by it. It's so disturbing," said senior Sophie Martof.

Court documents say Fuchs was involved in a sexual act with the victim at her home when her husband walked in on them. The allegations further state the two traded emails, texts and she sent a sexual video of herself to him.

In one text message to the victim, Fuchs wrote, "Well, protect me as best you can. Remember NOTHING COMES OUT EVER! About anything you have been to my house only once. Lie like you have NEVER lied before."

That text brings on the allegation of tampering with a witness.

"This is always a somber moment and there are no winners in these particular situations," said Bainbridge Island police chief Matt Hamner.

Fuchs was arrested Thursday following a two and a half month investigation starting back on February 25th when she was placed on administrative leave.

"It is very unsettling and deeply disturbing to all of us to have these kinds of charges leveled against a person who was a staff member here," said Bainbridge Island Schools Superintendent Faith Chapel.

Students say a lot of rumors were being spread about Fuchs, but they take the allegations seriously. Taylor,

"I know a lot of people are like, 'he's a boy and it must be great for him, every teenaged boy's dream.' But I really think it isn't. I really think it's just taking advantage of a young boy," Taylor said.

The 16-year-old boy is no longer enrolled at the high school. Bainbridge Island police say they do not believe there are any other victims.
