Cayuse Pass reopens for summer

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - The state Transportation Department re-opened Cayuse Pass at noon Friday.

The 4,675-foot-high pass at the intersection of Highway 410 and Highway 123 had been closed since Nov. 20 and crews started clearing the snow in early March.

The department plans to reopen nearby Chinook Pass on Highway 123 next Friday for Memorial Day weekend.

The 5,430-foot Chinook Pass is an east entrance through Mount Rainier National Park and has been closed by snow since Dec. 2.
