Caught on Camera: Vandals target North Seattle car dealership with corrosive spray
SEATTLE - The owner of a used car dealership in North Seattle is asking for help to track down the vandals that sprayed damaging chemicals on more than two dozen vehicles over the weekend.
Randy Lindquist, the owner of Wild West Cars and Trucks on Lake City Way, said it happened early Sunday morning, on New Year's Eve.
Surveillance video captured a white, or light-colored car slow down as it passed his dealership. A liquid spray is then seen streaming from the car's backseat window onto the cars and trucks at the front of the lot.
Lindquist believes the liquid spray was some sort of acid or chemical. The liquid was so corrosive, it stripped the paint right down to the metal and left divots in plastic pieces. At least 27 cars were damaged.
"It's heartbreaking to see all the damage that has been done within a few seconds of someone driving by the lot," said Jennifer Linquist, the dealership's manager. "They destroyed a quarter of our inventory."
Damage is estimated at $150,000. The damaged cars will now have to be stripped, resurfaced, repainted and buffed back to life.
It's not the first time the dealership has been targeted by vandals.
Randy Lindquist said his lot has been hit four times since the fall of 2015, including another chemical spray attack just a year ago.
He told police he thinks it's someone with a personal vendetta.
"It's a financial burden, but more than anything, it's a public safety hazard," said Randy Lindquist.
Seattle Police said the investigation is active and ongoing.
Wild West Cars and Trucks is now offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.
A family in Shoreline had a similar attack happen at their home in November.
Surveillance video captured someone spraying their cars with some sort of corrosive liquid. It was the second time since August their home was targeted.
The homeowner said she's been in contact with the dealership and detectives, but it's not clear if the two cases are related.
