Can the 12th man scream louder? Yes they can
SEATTLE --- Apparently, the 12th Man can scream louder. All they have to do is scream the correct way, according to professional voice coach Susan Carr.
Carr is an expert screamer and she's worked with some the biggest music stars, from Macklemore to Alice in Chains. She says everyone can scream, but most people scream the wrong way and hurt their vocal chords.
"It's a primal thing, you do it when you're a little baby," says Carr. "Longevity is most important because if you scream and you can only do it for 20 minutes and you can only do it from your throat, then you're hurting and you don't want to do it anymore."
Her number one tip is to scream from your stomach and not your throat.
How do you do that? Carr says start by placing the palms of your hands on your hip bones with you fingers wrapped-in toward your belly button. Those muscles should clinch and push out when you scream.
Next, concentrate your air up, through your throat and out your face. If you're doing it right, she says you should feel the air vibrating all along the way.
The 12th Man currently holds the Guinness World Record for loudest fans at 137.6 decibels recorded back on Dec. 2. Carr says, without a doubt, if every fan took the time to warm up, drink something hot and use her techniques, they would break that record again.
