A witness told KOMO News that she found the man's body lying partially in the parking lot of the Fox Island Grocery at about 5:45 a.m. Thursday. She notified her manager and a state trooper who was at the store getting gas.
The witness said the man it appeared that the victim had been stabbed in the chest, and she did not recognize him as an island resident. No vehicles had been left at the scene.
Investigators arrived and launched a homicide investigation, said Pierce County Sheriff's Office spokesman Ed Troyer. No information was immediately available about the victim.
According to the witness, hypodermic needles have been left lying around the store recently - something she has never seen there before.
