BELLEVUE, Wash. -- The man prosecutors say stabbed his ex-wife more than 70 times in her Bellevue condo before attempting to flee to Mexico signed an extradition waiver Wednesday in Los Angeles and will return to King County in the coming weeks.
Aleksandr Polak, 46, was arrested in Los Angeles June 20 and charged with murdering Nataliya Vabishchevich, 35, three days earlier. According to prosecutors, he was on his way to Mexico and then on to Europe.
A coworker found Vabishchevich in her condo after the part-time massage therapist failed to show up for work. Vabishchevich's 14-year-old son reportedly told police about her troubled relationship with Polak.
Polak is charged with first-degree murder and could face life in prison if convicted.
