Armed man breaks into home, sexually assaults young girl

SEATTLE -- Police are searching for a man accused of breaking into a Rainer Beach home early Monday and sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl.

Police were dispatched to a home near 53rd Avenue South and South Wabash Street at around 6 a.m. after receiving a call about a break in and sexual assault.

Members of the family told officers a stranger armed with a gun broke into the house early that morning and sexually assaulted their 10-year-old daughter before leaving with several items.

Police canvassed the area but didn't find the suspect.

Detectives and crime scene investigators interviewed witnesses and went door to door looking for information. Police are also working with child specialists to interview the victim and get a better description of the suspect.

Police describe the suspect as a black man in his 30s who may have had mutton chop sideburns. On Monday morning he was wearing a grey sweatshirt and black shorts.

Detectives are still trying to figure out exactly how the man broke into the house, but they're warning residents to lock their doors and windows.
