At least six businesses in Arlington and Mount Vernon have been burglarized since January 9, and detectives say the crimes appear to be related.
In each, the burglar or burglars enter the building at night by tossing a brick or rocks through a glass window or door. After stealing cash from registers, the burglar picks up the brick and leaves the same way he came in.
Based on surveillance video, one of the burglars appears to be a stocky white man who usually wears baggy sweat pants or running pants. The pants are ill fitting, and police say the video shows him frequently pulling them up.
Police believe the thief or thieves first struck January 9 at Red Door Beads in the 3100 block of Smoky Point Drive. A similar burglary was reported January 15 at a Papa Murphy's Pizza store in the 3400 block of 169th Place.
Less than five minutes after the Papa Murphy's was hit, the burglar targeted a Baskin Robins in the same block. The following night, the burglar hit Patty's Eggnest and Recycled Biker Stuff on State Route 530.
The last known burglary was on January 18 at Body Mechanix Burg in the 400 block of South 1st Street in Mount Vernon, according to police.
Anyone with information on any of the burglaries is asked to call Arlington police.
