80-year-old man killed in crash on I-90

ISSAQUAH, Wash. -- An elderly man died Friday evening following a two-car crash on I-90 that was apparently caused by debris in the road, State Patrol troopers said.

The 80-year-old man was driving in his red truck near the SR-18 interchange when he swerved to avoid a cooler that was in the roadway. The man collided with an SUV and the impact broke the pickup truck into two pieces. Both cars came to rest in the median.

When medics and troopers arrived, they found the driver of the pickup was unconscious. Medics attempted CPR and then took the man to Swedish Hospital in Issaquah where he was pronounced dead, Webb said.

Neither drugs nor alcohol are a suspected factor in the crash, Webb said. The driver of the SUV was not hurt.
