73-year-old woman struck, killed in downtown Edmonds

EDMONDS,Wash. - A 73-year-old woman was struck and killed Tuesday afternoon as she was crossing the street in downtown Edmonds, police said.

Officers and medics responded to the scene, near 4th Avenue North and Bell Street, at about 6:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a car hitting a pedestrian, said Sgt. Mark Marsh of the Edmonds police.

They arrived within two mminutes of being dispatched, but the woman was already dead.

A preliminary investigation found that the victim was crossing 4th Avenue when she was struck by a late model SUV being driven by a 36 year old female Edmonds resident.

The driver, who had been initiating a left turn onto 4th Ave North, stopped immediately and called 911.

The driver is cooperating fully and there is no indication at this time that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
