4-year-old hospitalized with suspected heroin overdose
REDMOND, Wash. -- A 4-year-old and his 37-year-old father have been hospitalized with suspected heroin overdoses, according to the Redmond Police Department.
According to police, the boy's mother arrived home to the 14100 block of Northeast 72nd Street in Redmond around 11:45 a.m. Tuesday to find her son and husband unconscious, but breathing.
Officers arrived and found drug paraphernalia at the scene and currently believe the father is responsible for injecting his son with heroin, according to police. Police are looking at the case as an assault on a child.
"We are treating this as a possible assault, under the assumption that maybe someone else injected the 4-year-old with heroin," Lt. Charlie Gorman with the Redmond Police Department says.
Police say call records show officers had been to the home for welfare checks and reports of an assault, but are unsure if it's the same family.
The young boy who lives at the home didn't play with many kids, and his parents were just as elusive, neighbors say.
Both father and son are in stable condition at separate hospitals. Police say it's too early to tell if the father might face charges, but they are not searching for additional suspects.
