2 women rescued from top of cliff in Cascade Mountains

MCCLELLAN BUTTE, Wash. - Search teams rescued two women, one with an injured leg, who became stranded atop a cliff on McClellan Butte overnight.

King County Search and Rescue says about 35 volunteers took part in the rescue, about nine miles west of Snoqualmie Pass and a mile south of Interstate 90 in the Cascade Mountains.

Search teams were notified about the stranded women at about 7 p.m. The pair had tried to get down the mountain but ultimately found themselves stranded at the top of a cliff.

One of the women suffered an open cut to her leg and had to be helped down the trail once she was lowered from the steep terrain.

The rescue was completed by 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.
