Police and medics responded to the scene, near the intersection of 148th Avenue NE and NE 31st Street, at about 2:10 a.m. after receiving a report of a serious crash, said Carla Iafrate of the Bellevue police.
A preliminary investigation found that an Acura SUV was heading south on 148th Avenue well above the 40-mph speed limit when it crashed into a Ford Taurus that was turning left into an apartment complex, police said. The Taurus was T-boned on the passenger side door.
A passenger in the Taurus, a 55-year-old Bellevue man, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Overlake Medical Center.
The 57-year-old driver of the Taurus is from Redmond and was evaluated for minor injuries. The 29-year-old driver of the Acura is from Bellevue was evaluated for injuries.
Both drivers were arrested and booked into King County jail for investigation of vehicular assault.
Investigators believe that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, Iafrate said.
The southbound lanes of 148th Avenue NE were closed for about four hours during the crash investigation. The street re-opened up at approximately 6:10 a.m.
