2 Snohomish County teens missing in Alpine Lakes area

MUKILTEO, Wash. -- Two teens from Mukilteo and Edmonds are missing after a day hike to the Alpine Lakes Wilderness.

Ricardo Perez, 18, and 19-year-old Brian Chim left Sunday morning to hike and swim in the Mason Lake area and were expected to return home Sunday night. However, neither teen returned as expected and their parents called police to report them missing.

Search and rescue crews are now combing the area on the ground and from the air for the missing teens. They're also asking anyone who was on the popular trials to call deputies at (206) 296-3311 if they saw either teen hiking in the area.

Perez was last seen wearing shorts and a light blue jacket and is about 5 feet 11 inches, weighing 185 lbs. Chim was last seen wearing a purple tee shirt and khaki shorts with a black backpack. He is 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs about 170 lbs.

Deputies said both teens are inexperienced hikers but the warm weather is in their favor for surviving overnight conditions.

Perez just recently graduated from Mukilteo's Kamiak High School while Chim is now a student at the University of Washington.
