2 small earthquakes strike San Juan Islands in past 24 hours

FRIDAY HARBOR, Wash. - Two small earthquakes have struck the San Juan Islands over the past 24 hours, but neither caused any reported damage.

The first quake, measuring 2.7 in magnitude, struck at about 6:30 Sunday evening. The second, measuring 3.0 in magnitude, struck at about 3 a.m. Monday.

Both quakes were centered about five miles north-northwest of Friday Harbor, just off San Juan Island, at a depth of about eight miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

There were no reports of damage, but residents from Victoria to Anacortes said they could feel the second quake.
