2 injured when helicopter crashes in Wenatchee

EAST WENATCHEE, Wash. (AP) - Witnesses say two men were seriously injured when a helicopter working to dry cherries in an East Wenatchee, Wash., orchard clipped a power line.

The Wenatchee World reports the crash happened Tuesday afternoon after a brief rainstorm.

Joe Ells and Nathan Goforth were nearby and ran to the crash site. Ells says the helicopter landed upside down.

The injured men were taken to a hospital. No information on their condition was immediately available.

Firefighters called utility crews to service the damaged 100,000-volt power line.

Helicopters are routinely called in the blow moisture off cherries after a rainstorm to keep the cherries from splitting open.
