2 arrested after woman shot in her car in Auburn

AUBURN, Wash. - A woman was shot in her car Friday morning during a drug deal gone bad in an Auburn parking lot, police said.

Officers and medics responded to the scene, near 17th Street and Auburn Way, at about 9:40 a.m. after receiving a report of shots fired at a car, said Cmdr. Mike Hirman of the Auburn police.

Arriving at the scene, they found a woman in the car who had been shot in the neck. She was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where she is listed in critical condition.

Two suspects, a man in his mid-20s and a woman in her mid-30s, were found nearby and were taken into custody.

A preliminary investigation found that the shooting victim, a woman in her mid-30s, had met in the car with the two suspects to sell them some drugs, police said. But the drug transaction became a robbery when the male suspect pulled out a handgun.

A physical altercation then broke out in the car. The male suspect jumped out of the car and fired multiple rounds at the victim, who was still in the driver's seat of the car, according to police.

The two suspects then fled the scene but were found nearby soon afterward and placed under arrest.

Police are still looking for the gun used in the shooting.
