17-year-old girl clinging to life after being hit by car in Renton

RENTON, Wash. - A 17-year-old girl suffered potentially life-threatening injuries Thursday when she was struck by a car while walking alongside a roadway in the Renton Highlands, police said.

Officers and medics responded to the scene, in the 800 block of Duvall Avenue NE, at about 11:45 a.m. after receiving a report of a car hitting a pedestrian, said Robert Onishi of the Renton Police Department.

The victim was found at the scene with severe injuries and was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Witnesses told police that a driver heading north in a maroon-colored sedan had drifted onto the right shoulder of the road, striking the girl as she was walking there.

The driver kept driving north after hitting the girl, but then returned to the scene a few minutes later and is being interviewed by detectives, Onishi said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to immediately call 911, or contact Sgt. Kevin Keyes at 425-430-7500 and refer to case number 14-5956.
