1 killed, 1 injured in overnight shooting at Kent corner gas station
KENT, Wash. - A corner gas station in Kent became the scene of a deadly crime Tuesday morning after two men were shot overnight.
One of the victims is dead. The other is in the hospital. The suspect or suspects got away and remain at large.
According to early reports, the two men were shot at about midnight just beside the 76 station at the corner of West Meeker Street and 64th Avenue South. One of victims was able to stumble inside and plead for help. The cashier on duty then called 911 and police rushed to the scene.
When officers and medics arrived, they found the second man outside, behind the gas station. They tried to revive him, but the efforts were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim who made it into the store was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he is listed in stable condition with severe injuries.
A neighbor told KOMO News she was on the way to the store when the sound of eight to ten gunshots stopped her in her tracks.
"If I wouldn't have stopped when I heard the shots, I probably would have been in the store," she said. "So I probably would have seen it or been a part of it. I'm glad I actually wasn't."
Police are hoping to talk to the survivor in the hospital soon, after they get the green light from the medical staff. They also plan to review video from surveillance cameras at the gas station.
