1 dead after van vs. motorcycle crash on Highway 2 east of Skykomish
SKYKOMISH, Wash. -- A motorcyclist died Thursday afternoon after she crashed head-on into a van on Highway 2 east of Skykomish, according to Washington State Patrol.
The State Patrol said the motorcyclist and an SUV were both traveling westbound on Highway 2 near milepost 51 around 3:45 p.m.
They said the 60-year-old woman on the motorcycle somehow crossed the center line and struck a van head-on. The motorcyclist then collided with the SUV.
The two vehicles were fully engulfed in flames after the motorcycle reportedly went under the van, according to Trooper Heather Axtman.
The motorcyclist died at the scene. The other two drivers were not injured.
Highway 2 was closed in both directions in that area for more than five hours while the State Patrol investigated and cleared the scene. The highway has since reopened.
