This is your teen on screens

Ever wonder how digital media use affects your health? A new article from Huffington Post shows how kids' health is being compromised by constant gaming, texting and tweeting.

Jessica Samakow and Lori Leibovich report children ages 8 to 18 spend an average of seven hours a day behind screens, and these are some of the health impacts:

  • Children who spend more time in front of screens and less time outside have narrower blood vessels in their eyes - an issue that's been linked to cardiovascular disease in adults.

  • 61 percent of obese boys, and 63 percent of obese girls, reported watching television for two or more hours each day.

  • 84 percent of 18- to 24- year-olds admitted to having back pain from being slumped over their phones, also known as "iPosture."
