'DWTS' honors local dancer who lost her leg in Boston
A professional dancer whose leg was partially amputated following injuries she sustained near the finish line of the Boston Marathon was honored on last night's episode of "Dancing with the Stars," and is slated to perform on the program as soon as she's ready.
Speaking with the AP, Adrianne Haslet-Davis, a professional ballroom dancer from Issaquah, vowed that she would dance again. That message inspired Derek Hough, the professional dance partner of fan favorite Kellie Pickler. Hough told the Boston Herald that he'd reached out to Haslet-Davis and wanted to begin practicing with her as soon as she was prepared to begin dancing again.
On last night's episode of the show, Haslet-Davis was honored for what host Tom Bergeron called her "amazingly positive outlook."
"Adrianne Haslet is...[a] testament to the power of the human spirit," he noted during the emotional segment.
Haslet-Davis doesn't have a firm date scheduled for her appearance yet -- that will depend on her rehabilitation and progress -- but, says Bergeron, the show will continue to follow her progress and get her on the floor as soon as she's ready.
