It's time for those end-of-summer airfare sales
It's the middle of August. The days are getting shorter and the kids are getting ready to go back to school. That means it's time for the airlines to start their after-summer sales.
"Travel from just after Labor Day until just before Thanksgiving is when fares go down," said George Hobica, founder of AirFareWatchdog.com.
Hobica told me he's seen some amazing fares out of Seattle recently:For example, on American Airlines to Baltimore and Jet Blue to Long Beach, Calif.
"Alaska Airlines and Delta are now competing on Los Angeles and San Francisco, Hobica said. "And we also saw some great fares on Delta to Asia, both to Hong Kong and Tokyo."
You'll save the most if you travel the early in the week. AirFareWatchdog says the lowest airfares are typically on flights that depart on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
If you're planning to travel in 2015, Hobica says fares tend to be good from New Year's Day until February 15th.
