If you go that route, make sure you use a company with a track record for quality work. If the carpet isn't properly cleaned - according to the manufacturer's recommendations - and they ruin your carpets, that will void the warranty.
"When you see those commercials or you have those fliers for what seems like a 'too good to be true' offer to get your carpets cleaned, it's probably too good to be true," said Cheryl Reed with Angie's List.
Of course, you may not discover that until the cleaning crew shows up at your home.
"They'll come into your house and they'll say 'oh yeah, we can clean your carpet, but if you really want it to be deep-cleaned, meaning cleaned well, then you have to pay more,' and that can really add to your bill," Reed said. "And often what will happen is, consumers will have somebody in their home, they've got what looks like good equipment, and they just agree to pay the money."
Cleaning the carpet is good for it and good for you. Just make sure you hire a pro who will do the job right.
