McCarver Elementary completes multi-million dollar makeover
TACOMA, Wash. - What's old is new again for students at McCarver Elementary School in Tacoma.
After spending a year at the nearby McKinley campus, class is back in session at McCarver. The campus was closed last year for a $39-million gut and overhaul of the historic school, built in the 1920s. Classrooms now have the latest technology, the building received significant seismic upgrades, and elements of its history were preserved.
Tacoma is in the midst of a construction spree. Voters approved a bond measure that will allow renovations or reconstruction at more than a dozen schools across the district over the next few years.
