Young boy seriously injured in Burien hit-and-run

BURIEN, Wash. -- A 4-year-old boy is fighting for his life after being hit by a car Thursday night in Burien.

The boy was getting out of a van with his family just before 9:30 p.m. when an older Honda Civic or Accord driving northbound on Fourth Avenue SW hit him, according to Det. Jason Stanley with the King County Sheriff's office.

Stanley said the car was going roughly 40 miles per hour at the time of impact.

"The child ran out into the street and the car hit the child. The child went up, did a couple somersaults in the air before he came to rest on the pavement," said Sgt. Cheryl Macdonald with the King County Sheriff's Office.

The driver briefly pulled over, but then sped away northbound toward Seattle.

The boy was taken to Harborview Medical Center where he remains in critical condition after undergoing surgery Friday.
