Kristin Ito, 30, was seriously wounded in the attack by a suspect who confronted her as she was walking with her boyfriend, Troy Wolff, 46, after the Seattle Sounders game.
Wolff intervened in the attack, and the suspect turned on him and began stabbing him repeatedly in the neck and torso, police said. Wolff died hours later at the hospital.
Ito was released from Harborview Medical Center on Monday after she responded to treatment and her condition improved.
The suspect, Donnel Jackson, is being held in the King County Jail on $2 million bail for investigation of murder. Police say Jackson is schizophrenic, and on Monday, Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn said the city needs to do more to address mental illness.
Wolff was chairman of the English Department at Shoreline Community College. He had taught there for 17 years and also worked with international students.
