A report of "shots fired" was called in just before 5:30 p.m. in the 7100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way South.
Police believe someone either on the sidewalk or in a car shot at two vehicles -- a Buick and a black SUV -- that were stopped in the roadway.
The Buick and the SUV were both gone by the time officers arrived on scene, but the Buick was later found unoccupied at 39th Avenue South and South Graham Street with "obvious damage caused by gunfire," according to police.
Police impounded the car for future forensic analysis, but they so far have been unable to track down the black SUV.
Adbullahi Ahmed was nearby and heard the shots ring out.
"It was very very dangerous and very scary," he said.
A woman who was standing nearby with her child was grazed in the shooting, but police don't yet know if she was hit with a piece of flying glass, a bullet fragment, a bullet ricochet or something else.
The woman was treated at the scene and released. The child wasn't injured.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the police.
