Victim in Burke Gilman trail shooting identified as Renton woman

SEATTLE - The woman found shot to death on a popular Seattle trail Friday morning has been identified as 26-year-old Jowanna Gooden of Renton.

Gooden's sister, LaQuanna Cooper says her sister was a fun, loving, and out-going young woman. She says Gooden was hardworking and was almost finished with her Associate of Arts degree when she was killed.

Gooden was family oriented, had obtained her cosmetology degree and maintained a healthy life, her sister said.

"She may have had some struggles in her life, but they should not out-shadow her wonderful personality and genuine heart," Cooper said in an email.

Gooden's body was found by a passerby. Another man who was walking his dog in the area shortly after midnight said he had heard a loud bang like a firework.

"It sounded like an M80, or loud firecracker," Terry Ladd said. "But, that just seemed strange."

Neighbors say the area is full of walkers, joggers, and cyclists during the day and early evening, but the traffic thins out after dark.

Police believe Gooden knew her attacker.
