USS Nimitz returning to Everett on Monday

EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - The Navy says the aircraft carrier Nimitz will return to its home port in Everett on Monday, completing a nine-month deployment in the Pacific and Indian oceans.

The Nimitz has traveled 80,000 nautical miles since leaving Puget Sound at the end of March. It spent more than two months in direct support of the Afghanistan War. Its planes flew nearly 1,400 sorties in support of combat.

The deployment took the Nimitz as far as the Mediterranean Sea in November where the strike group conducted operations with NATO allies.
