      Two dead in violent Thurston County car crash

      OLYMPIA, Wash. -- A male driver and his female passenger were killed Wednesday evening when their car went off the road and slammed into a tree on State Route 8 near Olympia.

      Washington State Patrol trooper Guy Gill said the pair was driving eastbound at a high rate of speed at about 6 p.m. when their 1994 Mazda Protege went off the road and hit a tree, splitting the car in two.

      The driver, a 19-year-old from Montesano, was not wearing a seat belt. He was thrown from the car and killed. Gill said the passenger, a 19-year-old from McCleary, was wearing a seat belt, but she did not survive the wreck.

      No other vehicles were involved and troopers are investigating what caused the crash.
