Threatening messages, Molotov cocktail found in Kent apartment

KENT, Wash. -- Residents of a Kent apartment complex were evacuated Wednesday after police found explosives inside one of the units.

Police first responded to the complex, located in the 1200 block of Weiland Street, just before noon after getting reports of suspicious items inside the apartment of an evicted tenant.

When police arrived with the bomb squad and members of the Kent Fire Department, they found at least one Molotov cocktail and a number of suspicious containers inside the apartment.

As a precaution, nearby apartments were evacuated so the bomb technicians could get rid of the explosives.

Police also found threatening messages on the door of the apartment.

According to officials, the unnamed tenant is in jail on charges unrelated to Wednesday's incident.
