Thieves steal baby Jesus from Olympia nativity scene

OLYMPIA -- It's one of the most recognized scenes in the world, and on Sunday morning owner Ron Wesselius discovered it was missing its main attraction.

Wesselius's nativity scene sits on the campus of the state capitol building in Olympia.

He's been displaying it every Christmas for nearly seven years, but he says the baby Jesus was stolen from the manger sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

It had been on display less than 24 hours, and he says the glue hadn't even had time to dry.

"It was just kind of sad that someone would take a figurine from the nativity set and not just let it be left alone and other people enjoy it," Wesselius said.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the figurine is encouraged to call the Olympia Police Department's non-emergency line at (360) 753-8300.
