The reason Bradley Cooper lives with his mom will melt your heart

Living at home with mom has become kind of punchline for single people, but if one of America's most desirable men can pull it off, can it really be all bad? Bradley Cooper recently told "Details" magazine that life with his roommate -- who is his mother -- is difficult but necessary, since the death of his father.

"Let's face it: It's probably not easy for be living with her son. It's life. And right now, two years after my father's death, this is where we are," Cooper explained during a candid interview. "My family is very close, and my dad dying was brutal for all of us. It was a schism, and its aftershock has not stopped. And we need each other. So here we are."

Cooper shared his experiences caring for his dying father with NPR's Terry Gross in February, noting that his father inspired his love of films and that he'd "always felt like he was my friend."

And while her presence may put a crimp in his social life, life with mom isn't all bad for Cooper.

"She's a cool chick," Cooper told the magazine, "We can hang, and she can roll with the punches. If that wasn't the case, there's no way."
